Sonny Bill Williams & Quade Copper...Together?

According to various reports, Quade Cooper will be leaving the Wallabies & Queensland Reds for an apparent bid at boxing, fueling speculation that Cooper will make a move to the NRL, joining Sonny Bill Williams - possibly with the Roosters if there's room - for 2013. If all this happens, then Khoder Nasser will be viewed by many as a freakin' genius.

Since 2010, these two have 'flirted' people's brains with statements about wanting to play together in rugby league, as they both are represented by Nasser, who is not universally accepted by the NRL community but still manages to pull corporate strings his way like Kris Jenner of the Kardashians. Since both are from New Zealand and have an odd balance of haters that despise them and female (and some male) fans that want to sleep with them, the image of Cooper and Williams playing league, maybe for the same club, makes sense.

However, any notion of the two running together in next year's league season is too early. Right now, the two are expected to line up as boxers, most likely as part of Williams' rescheduled boxing match against Botha in February 2013. This would give Cooper some time to make a contract deal with NRL representatives, hopefully in a smoother manner compared to the messy process Williams went through with the Roosters. But on the flip side, it gives the Queensland Reds management a chance to change Cooper's mind and accept that reductive contract by the ARU. There are a lot of Reds fans crossing their fingers for Cooper to stay in union, though most would admit following Williams' move to league has its benefits.

I can't imagine how league officials are celebrating over this story. Given Williams' controversial history with the Bulldogs, there has to be CEOs and club owners who are giggling like horny, Twilight-obsessed teenage girls over a former All Black and a former Wallaby possibly playing in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. It wouldn't matter if Cooper plays for the Kangaroos or joins Williams for the Kiwis - or it could be flipped  with Williams & Cooper playing for the Kangaroos - any decision on who they play for will generate attention (and revenue) for the code.
